My Play Group started a challenge last April where a word was pulled from a bag and we were to make a 12" X 12" quilt depicting that word. Members of the group supplied the words at the first gathering. A word was pulled every month. I already displayed "Breakfast" as an unfinished piece last year, but finally got around to finishing it last week.
One summer morning as I was eating my breakfast, I looked outside my window and saw this tiny hummingbird having their breakfast. It was so appropriate for that month's challenge.
After quilting it, I decided it needed something a little more and added the variegated thread in a fancy stitch around the inner and outer borders. I then finished it on the raw edge with a satin thread. That took me a little out of my comfort zone as I usually like the edges bound with fabric. It was fun to 'play'.
