Andrew (my 9-year-old grandson) came home with a Virginia history homework assignment. He is doing a research project about "Light Horse" Harry Lee (father of Robert E. Lee, leader of Lee's Raiders, etc.) He has to make a doll and dress it as part of his project. So guess how we spent the past very rainy weekend??
Andrew typed his paper in Word and we printed it out a number of times onto muslin, backed with freezer paper (so it would go through the printer). Then Andrew traced the doll pattern onto the muslin and cut it out. We used my sewing machine and he sewed the straight lines and I sewed the curved ones. We stuck a piece of wire in all of the limbs and then stuffed them with cotton, before sewing them onto the torso. Andrew has drawn designs for his clothes in his sketchbook and between homework and baseball practice we hope to dress Harry as if he were a Lee's Raider. We'll post another picture when Harry is finished.
