More Patchwork Bags

I went away with my guild to a four-day retreat last week in Lancaster County, PA. My direction in quilt-making has changed from the cookie cutter, sweathouse piecing methods to more artistic one-of-kind quilts that take more time to design than to sew. So I was in a tizzy about what projects to take and spend three days doing so.

If you've ever sat in a room with 11 other sewers, you know that it is NOT the sewing machines that make the most noise. I learned this the last time I went on retreat. Taking a project that requires time, attention to directions and details is pointless unless you have a good supply of seam rippers. That little patchwork bag that I posted recently seemed to be the best choice in that it was easy, quick and I had most of the supplies in my stash. So I spent a few hours before the retreat cutting and packaging the squares, threads and other items needed to make them. I cut out enough denim and cotton for four patchwork bags. I think you will like the results.

You may notice that these two bags are missing their handles. As I mentioned, the retreat was held in Lancaster County, PA--Amish country. I found a local carriage shop and the Amish proprietor and his son were able to craft two sets of leather purse handles along with button rosettes for me. While I was waiting, I found many interesting clips and rings that were just right for sewing in the bags to use for key holders. I felt like the luckiest bag sewer in the world. Here is a pic of those leather pieces and key holders.

I hope you enjoy the pictures and remember that this bag pattern is from Indygo Junction and the pattern is number IJ798.
