Quilt Play This Week

I was able to play this week. Yes, I did my weekly chores, grocery shopping and errand running, but I was also able to squeeze in some time to play this week. My guild sponsered a very talented guilter, Cindy Needham. She gave a wonderful lecture on Tuesday about the various threads available to quilters. She does the most interesting quilts using vintage hand embroideries. She has a very nice selection of quilts where she has used old tablecloths, coasters, towels, etc. You can see her quilts at her website http://www.cindyneedham.com/slideshow/slideshow2.html She does amazing things with thread and her sewing machine.

Anyway, during the all-day class on Wednesday we played with all of her threads. She brought a suitcase full of thread with her...silk thread, cotton thread, polyester thread, glitter thread, quilt artist thread . . . you name it, she had it. And we got to play with ALL of it. If you needed help getting your machine to behave and accept the various threads, she knew where to tweak our machine, change our needle or just advise us on our method of machine quilting. Here are a few of my samples from playing that day. The floral one is a pre-printed piece of fabric that she provided and she said we could quilt it any way we wanted.

This class was great fun and I learned about so many threads that can be used to embellish a quilt that you'll soon be seeing them in upcoming quilts. P.S. She also gave me some inspiration on how to use some of those embroidered pieces I have been collecting for awhile.
