The snow came as all the weather people predicted. There is so much of it here, I haven't bothered to measure. We lost power about 9:30 Friday night and it came back about 3:45 Saturday morning. Then about 1:30 Saturday afternoon we lost it during the height of the snowfall. We didn't get it back until 28 hours later . . . about 5:30 p.m. Sunday evening. We made numerous phone calls to the power company as suggested by local radio announcers (yes I still have a portable, battery-powered radio!). We made the best of the situation and were able to use the gas grill to heat water for coffee and hot chocolate and also to cook some hotdogs and heat soup. The kerosene heater we purchased three years ago kept us from freezing to death. It was almost hot in the living room. The lower level (where the boys sleep) went to about 40 degrees overnight on Saturday. Since we had to turn the heater off when we went to bed, all the quilts came in handy....finally. I better not hear about how much I quilt anymore!
Sunday afternoon, we still hadn't seen a snow plow. Jeff and I ventured out in the Subaru on Sunday as I learned the local Home Depot had kerosene in stock. Another stop at Radio Shack provided the Cell phone charger for the car. We traveled on roads outside the neighborhood that had been plowed. We saw lots of downed power lines, but we made it home without incident....except..... there was someone stuck in the road in front of our driveway! After helping them shovel out we arrived home safe. I purchased 10 gallons of keronsene, Dick filled up the heater, and we heated soup on the grill. Cheers of joy resounded in the house when the power came back on about 5:30 p.m. - - one hour before Super Bowl kickoff. Lesson learned--1) heed the advice of forecasters when they predict such a storm; 2) stock up on canned food and bread; 3) have a good supply of batteries for flashlights, radios, and hand--held electronic games. Can't tell you how many board (bored) games came off the shelf to keep us all entertained.
I'm off to shovel off the deck before the next wave of snow comes....predicted sometime tomorrow afternoon. Then it's off to the store...maybe we can be better prepared this time. Hope everyone is safe and warm.

Hey, Pat. Thanks for the comment. I don't know why it didn't show up here.
