I joined Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA) last Fall at the encouragement of my Art Journey Coach, Cyndi Souder. The organization is holding their annual International conference in Alexandria, Virginia this week--a hop, skip, and a jump from my house. And, OMG, in addition to Cyndi being there, I was able to introduce myself to Ellen Lindner from Melbourne, Florida, (http://adventurequilter.com/blog/ ) and Dena Crain (http://www.denacrain.com/blog/ ) from Kenya, Africa. They are on-line fabric art instructors from whom I have taken several classes. It was a dream come true to meet them in person.
And wait, it gets better than that. Yvonne Porcella, ( http://yvonneporcella.com/galleries.html )founder of SAQA, sat across the lunch table from me today. I think I've died and gone to heaven. You can only appreciate this if you are a fabric artist. Also in the same room at lunch time were Katie Pasquini Masopaust, Lyric Kinard, Lisa Ellis, Eileen Doughty, Kristin La Flamme, Bunnie Jordan and Lisa Walton. Too much talent in one room, wouldn't you agree?
I attended breakout sessions with Leslie Riley (How To Be Your Own Art Coach) and Valarie Poitier (Promote Your Work Without Apologizing). I learned some amazing things about how to get my fabric art pieces out in the public. As I was leaving I bumped into Pat Pauly ( http://www.piecesandresistance.blogspot.com/ ) whose class I attended at AQS Show in Lancaster last year. And she actually remembered me!
This has been one of the best days of my life! And there are still two days left to the conference, Ya Hooooo!
