"HAPPY"
And Happy is exactly what I felt as I completed this fiber art. My sister gave me our mom's hand crocheted apron a few years ago as she thought I might be able to use it in my fiber art. (Smile) I vaguely remember this was the apron my mom wore when we had special company or when she hosted her 'Sewing Club' gal's pot luck dinner back in the 1950's, early 60's. (Smile)
I've been storing this apron until I could figure the right background for it. While shopping at the AQS Lancaster Quilt Show in March this year, I found the perfect fabric. It is marbled fabric made by Paula Lavender. I have marbled fabric before, but I made smaller pieces and mine never turned out like this. And though I didn't have the apron with me, I just knew that gold color would go perfectly with it. So in my shopping bag it went. (Smile)
I heavily quilted the background first and then put the apron on top. I thought I would just tack the apron down, but it was a little too heavy and after advice from some friends, I sewed it down with monofilament thread. That did the trick and it will not move or fall off. It also allowed me to quilt in some nice spaces that give the apron dimension.(smile)
This project was also fun because it is something I did for me. There was no deadline to meet a challenge, or a book entry, or a contest, or an auction. It was fun without the pressures of those events and I STILL managed to finish it. Now where is my calendar, I know there are deadlines around the corner........
