I have a number of my parent's personal belongings and have been trying to think of a way to depict them in an art quilt. I hated to cut into those flannel shirts and handkerchiefs.
Yesterday, I decided I've waited long enough. So I grabbed a few pictures and a postcard and scanned them into my computer. I then printed them out on 100% cotton and heat-set them with an iron. I played with an arrangement, changed a few things, added a few items, removed a few, etc......you know the drill. I'm far from being done but farther along than I was day before yesterday. Let's hope progress continues. I plan to add more buttons from my mom's sewing bench, a little more lace, some hand stitching, and then hand quilt it.
Here it is so far:
There were a number of times when I touched those fabrics, that I had to take a deep breath and hold back tears. I was surprised how emotional I got as I positioned the cloths over and over again. I will post more progress when it occurs.
