If you were going to buy a Singer Featherweight, 201, 301 or a Vintage Elna Grasshopper, would you rather pay a little more knowing it was recently serviced? or pay less and do the maintenance yourself? Since these are mechanical machines, they are very easy to clean and oil and I have been maintaining them myself. I'm getting ready to find homes for my inventory of vintage machines and am not sure what to do. Your input would be appreciated.

I literally just purchased a featherweight this week. Sophie was a rescue, and her foster mom had Sophie all cleaned and serviced.
I probably paid a bit more than I should have, but I could use it "right out of the box" and she included the service notes with it.
On the flip side, I also received a treadle that was a hand-me-down (unserviced). For me the fun will be "fixing" it myself.
Probably not one to ask. I could go either way. Like you say, the maintenance is really basic.
Thanks, Jean, and congrats on Sophie's adoption. You will absolutely love using a Featherweight.
