Yes, it's happened again. My disk drive failed. I couldn't do taxes, I couldn't view the Quilting Art TV show disks that arrived in the mail and I couldn't review the Thread Art disk either. Nothing I put in my CD/DVD disk drive was working :--( I purchased a 3-year service agreement and it expires in June 2011.
This happened once before, around Christmas time, and when I took into Customer Service at Micro Warehouse, I could NOT replicate the problem. The service guy said it was working okay and wouldn't take it for repair since the service technician probably wouldn't be able to replicate the problem either.
Here we are two months later, and the system in failing again. I couldn't get the laptop to read any of my DVDs. So I took it back to the service department and I told them the computer's CD drive was only WORKING (not FAILING) intermittently. The service guy reluctantly suggested to leave it for repair since this time he could NOT get it to read a disk either.
Turns out that my laptop needed maintenance. The service tech called and said that there were 92 programs that were trying to execute when I turned the computer on and that needed to be cleaned up. He called with this information BEFORE he even checked the CD/DVD drive. He said he would call back when he got to that. I wasn't home when he called and he left a message that the DVD/CD drive was not a problem. He also said it was ready to be picked up. Don't worry, I took 7 disks with me to test out before I left the store. They all ran twice, without fail! I still can't believe that it was a maintenance issue that caused the disk to fail. Hopefully, someone reading this can explain this to me? I'm happy.......for now.
It's too bad that this computer store is about 20 miles from my home and I have to use the DC Beltway to get there. Grrrrrrr! Hopefully, the fix they made is long term. And yes, I've already begun to price new laptops! Seems they don't work like they should after they reach three years old.
