Black Mountain, NC Retreat

I spent the long Columbus Day weekend at the YMCA retreat house in Black Mountain, North Carolina. 25 art quilters learned how to create an art quilt from photographs provided by Susan Brubaker Knapp, the instructor. Joyce Mullis prepared breakfast and lunch everyday for everyone. (she did a terrific job with her epicurean delights) Donna helped her and also managed to take Susan's class at the same time. You can go to Susan's blog to see student pics of their results at http://wwwbluemoonriver.blogspot.com/

We could choose between a passion flower (what I picked) or pumpkins. Hindsight would tell me to choose the easier, bigger-pieced pumpkins instead of the flower with the teeny, weeny, background foliage. We traced and cut the fabric pieces and fused them to a background on Day 1. We then thread painted on Day 2.

Susan also took students on a walk through the camp to see how many wonderful pictures could be taken without walking very far. This YMCA camp is a photographer's paradise.

I don't think one could take a bad picture.
