New Year's Surprise

My guild put out a call before Christmas asking for quilts to use to hang in the Dewberry Life With Cancer Family Center in Fairfax, VA. When I first read the article the deadline appeared unattainable and with all of the holiday activities, I didn't give much thought to offering any of my art quilts. A friend encouraged me to submit my quilts because not only would they get displayed, but they could also be sold! I thought a little more and made some time to collect some pictures of my quilts and sent them to the organizers.

I received notice on New Year's Eve that five of my quilts were selected for the exhibit. WOOT! WOOT! Now the hard work begins...the organizers need my Bio, artist statements for each quilt and a selling price....right away! I've never knowingly written an Artist Statement in my life. This is all new to me. I wonder if the organizers know that??? I spent New Year's Eve writing Artist Statements and then find out this morning that all five have to be on ONE sheet of paper along with my bio. I edited, re-edited and I just finished the paperwork, cutting the heck out of the statements so they fit on one sheet of paper. I hope they make sense when half of the information is on the edit room floor. (Yes, I know, I could have reduced the print size to three or four, but then the viewer would never be able to read it)
Anyway, they were emailed a short time ago. It is a really, really good feeling that my quilts will provide a little comfort for cancer patients and their families. I can't think of a better way to start the New Year.

I'll post pics of the quilts later. Now I have to get ready to go see in-laws.
