What a nice surprise to hear from Doris last night. The strangest
thing was that when she phoned, I was in the middle of putting a stabilizer on
to the backs of Gerry's ties that I will use to make ALZ art quilts. I told her that and we enjoyed a chuckle. She then told me that she received the "tootsie roll" (I mailed the three quilts in a USPS document tube) package this week and wanted to thank me personally for making those quilts for her.
She thanked me wholeheartedly for making the quilts from Gerry's ties. She was
so excited to receive them and said I should sell my quilts! I told her she
flattered me, but I didn't do that. She can't wait to show them to Gerry...she'll be doing that later next week. I asked her to let me know of his reaction.
We had a nice chat and she shared memories of Gerry and that he had been
diagnozed with Alzheimer's five years ago. He was a psychoanalyst and taught at
the college level. Doris shared with me what Jerry's current limitations are. They both enjoy her reading to him when she visits.
She told me she was working on getting her new quilts put on display somewhere in the Adult Community where she lives. She asked if others could contact me about making tie quilts for them. I said that would be okay, but that I don't advertise that I do this. I said that in lieu of payment to me that the requestor make a donation to the Alzheimer Association so that we can find a cure for this disease in our lifetime. I discussed with her about the possibilty of name a series of
ALZ quilts, "Ties that Bind". I thought that it was the ties that brought me
and Wendy together and likewise me with her and since quilts are bound and
sometimes tied that I thought that would be a good name.
We promised to keep in touch before saying our goodbyes. What a wonderful way to end the week. :-)

Kathy, last weekend was fantastic! Color was everywhere so you were where you were supposed to be. You took some great shots and if you have time, you should post your flower photos. Your eye for finding and capturing the design and color in those flowers is a special gift, Kathy.
I wonder if other people are having a hard time posting comments here. I've written several and they're not showing up. The one at the left did, but showed up as anonymous becasue I chose not to open an account.... I'm sure alot of us are enjoying your stories, Kathy. It's just that the posting are just not making it to your site.... :( so don't get discouraged. Love ya, Kathy! Maureen
Maureen,
I'm a little late in seeing your post. I'll see if any of the flower pics are worth posting and put them out there if any of them are worthy. Thanks for your kind comments. K
