Ice Dyeing
A friend and I spent a recent morning 'ice' dyeing. I read about this process in the Quilting Arts magazine last year. I usually dye fabric by taking a class at a local shop and let the teacher do all of the chemical work. I then pick colors and bring my fabric and enlist various ways to dye it. The magazine article provided enough instruction and it appeared anyone could do this without a lot of chemistry knowledge. My friend has recently learned to dye and wanted to give this technique a try.
Being new at this technique, I didn't try to control the outcome. I just sprinkled various dye powders over the fabric with no other thought than to try and get some green fabric/scarves. The pics speak for themselves. Some worked better than others. I'll be overdyeing some of these pieces.
This is a process I will try again and would recommend it to anyone who is interested in dyeing without any precision.....and likes surprises!
