The AQS quilt show in Lancaster was great. The quilts were gorgeous, the classes informative and creative and the vendors were numerous. I thought attendance was light from previous years, but that gave us, the attendees, more room to see the quilts and experience no lines at the vendors.
I was happy to learn that AQS is coming back to Lancaster for another year! Lancaster is a wonderful re-developed/re-invented city. The Mariott hotel at the convention center is clean and the staff is extremely helpful. It didn't hurt that the temps rose to the mid-seventies--unheard of in Pennsylvania in mid March! It's March and the Marriot had the AC on! They must have known a group of older ladies with body temps that rise and fall quickly, were in the house!
Now about those projects that I have to finish as a result of the classes I attended. Terry White was alot of fun. She has so many ways to embellish a quilt. And although the class was only a half-day, I came away with many new ideas and only a few steps left to finish the class project.
Karen Stone's class, "Remainderings" was a little confusing at first, but once you made the first stitch, it got easier and easier. I managed to finish just one block, but have a good start on the remaining ones. She is very creative and gave good, honest, feedback while walking around the room overseeing each student's project. The only criticism I have is that the class should have been one or two days. A half day was not enough time to do everything.
Mary Stori's lecture was informative AND funny. She is a great speaker and a very talented beader. Her work is gorgeous.
I feel so energized after attending this Quilt Show. I couldn't wait to get home to finish what I started in class and begin using those newly-learned techniques on new projects.
I'll post pics later. I need to go to the studio before I forget what I learned......Happy Sewing!
