"My Camelias"

I joined another challenge last Fall where you took a page from the Vogue Fall Fashion magazine and used it as inspiration to make an art quilt. This is the 2nd time Playgroup has done this challenge, but it is the first time I've done it. Although many others took a long time examining the magazine for the perfect inspiration, I just arbitrarily pulled a page from the magazine. It was a lipstick ad. But it had a collection of nice pinks and reds. I was able to pull all of the fabric from my stash and here is the result.

I took a picture of the camellia blooms on the bush outside my front door. I then created an applique blossom and machine-appliqued it to the background. I had to "grow" the piece to comply with size requirements so I added the pieced border and used variegated thread to quilt around the rectangles. This piece will be displayed in the Quilters Unlimited Quilt Show at the end of May and may be part of a collection to appear with others in other regional quilt shows.
