May Came and Went So Fast

Since Mother's Day it seems I've spent my waking moments at my grandson's baseball games. The Little League regular season is over and the Playoffs begin Saturday. The travel team concluded the season at the Kyle's Kamp baseball tournament over the Memorial Day weekend. You can read more about that most worthy cause here: http://www.kyleskamp.org/index.html  Three round trips to the fields that are over 30 miles away on a chilly and windy weekend about did me in. But it was for a worthy cause.  Sure glad we were at a baseball tournament over that holiday rather than a swim meet!  Needless to say the neighborhood pool opened without us this year.

I've been working on the Beatles challenge. Do you know that in February 2014, it will mark 50 years since the Beatles performed in this country?  I chose a Beatle's song that is not my favorite but seemed to have lyrics that would be good inspiration for making an art quilt. It is very slow going. I have an idea, cut and sewn a little fabric, but just can motivate myself to make much progress.

I'm also taking an art journey class with Cyndi Sauder and there IS homework. We meet once a month and share ideas, constructively critique each other's quilts and hopefully gain more experience by using new skills and understanding of art principals to make our quilts sing.  Here are the pieces I turned in recently as my homework assignments. This one met the requirements of the homework, but didn't necessarily 'move' me.  I call it "Dream Sailing"

I like this one more. Unfortunately, I couldn't get my editor to crop this piece in shape of a diamond so you're seeing an ugly design wall behind this.  I call this one "Aztec Sun"

Summer has finally arrived in Northern Virginia. The temps are in the 90s and with the heat index, it goes up into the 100s. It's too early for this kind of weather!  Hope you are staying cool and are making time to play everyday!
