I bet you remember where you were 9 years ago. The events of that day changed the world.
I was working in downtown Washington, D.C. then. Yes, my subway ride took me through the Pentagon Station. What was normally a 35-minute commute became a three and a half hour commute to get home at mid-morning. The trains were being halted before the Pentagon Station and riders were directed to buses waiting to take them around the chaos. BUT most of the commuters had no idea what had taken place in New York, Pennsylvania OR the Pentagon.
And yes, I went to work the next day to our office on Pennsylvania Avenue, just a few blocks from the White House. Yes, I was scared, but I also thought that by going to work was one way to let the terrorists know what happened the day before was not going to prevent me from going to my public service job.
I had a former colleague die in the attack at the Pentagon. I have a friend whose health is in jeopardy after breathing the jet fumes as she made her way through the rubble at the Pentagon trying to find an avenue of escape.
My step-daughter was running late to work that morning to the Twin Towers and was able to turn around and go home safely after her train arrived at Penn Station in Manhattan.
I will NEVER forget the events of that day.
Let's keep ALL of the victims in our prayers.
